Dr. Devon Goodwin
Lecturer in Children's Studies NUIG
Dr. Devon Goodwin is originally from Alberta, Canada, where she worked as a counsellor in residential and community care for young adults with Autism. After training as a primary school teacher and a brief stint in special education teaching, she pursued her doctoral studies, which focused on theory development to explain social inequalities in representation in the teaching profession. Her interest in Autism is long-standing, and she is committed to work that helps us understand the aetiology, the biology, and the lived experience of autism. She is mother to one child on the spectrum and brings her own lived experience of interactions with services and education to her work. She is a board member of both the Galway Autism Partnership and St. Joseph’s Special School, Galway, and founder of the Sensory Swim Lab project at NUIG.
